BMI calculator
Uses the standard BMI formula in either customary or metric units and maps the result to WHO categories. BMI is a screening number, not a complete picture of health.

How this calculator works
Metric BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)^2. US BMI = 703 x weight (lb) / height (in)^2. Categories follow WHO cutoffs: underweight below 18.5, healthy 18.5-24.9, overweight 25-29.9, obesity 30+. The healthy-weight range is the body weight that would place BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 at the same height.
BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat and can misclassify athletes, older adults, and some ethnic groups. It is not a diagnosis. Talk with a clinician about your health.
